Stepping into Gethsemane: Through the eyes of Jesus
Stepping into Gethsemane: -
Where Messiah’s greatest moment of temptation will become the most crucial moment of history…where the first drops of sacrificial blood for the sins of the entire world, will be spilled:
Luke 22: 40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
Exactly how much is at stake here…?
EVERYTHING!
Reading: Luke 22:39-46…
Thank you Jesus…thank you, thank you, thank you…
On behalf of Adam & Eve, Seth, Noah, Abraham, Moses & Aaron, King David and the great cloud of Old Testament witnesses…who sleep…who wait! (Psalm 16:7-11; Hebrews 11)
On behalf of Mary & Joseph, Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, the man born blind, the penitent thief on the cross, Peter & the Eleven, Paul, Timothy and the trail blazers of the Christian faith…who hope…who also wait! (John 17:6-19)
On behalf of myself, my believing family, my children and all my brothers and sisters in Christ…all of us who are yet to be born (John 17:20-26)
On behalf of the nations of the world, the multitudes of Africa and Asia, the great multitude yet to be saved, the 144,000 Jews and all who will choose You in the end (Revelation 7)…
THANK YOU…that when the weight (and the fate) of all humanity was literally on your shoulders, you did not succumb to sin…You overcame it.
“For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised.
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.
But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
(See 1Corinthians 15:13-22)
