Psalm 147 - Part I
Psalm 147 Part 1
David’s songs of victory continue…
Praise the Lord!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.
vs2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
***David’s hope is in the resurrection of the dead (Psalm 16:9-11)…His hope is in the restoration of Israel (Jeremiah 29:12-14)…in the renewal of all things - when all Israel will be saved
(Micah 4:1-5; Romans 11:25-26)***
vs3 He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
(Micah 4:6-7)
vs4 He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them their names.
***See Genesis 22:17 -
A beautiful picture of the Ecclesia…the redeemed of The Lord, whom He knows - each one - intimately, by name.
And, just as He determines the number of stars, there is also:
a number of Gentiles which must come in (Romans 11:25);
a number of believers to be martyred (Revelation 6:10-11);
a number of Jews to be commissioned (Revelation 7:1-8)
and an entire nation to be saved (Romans 11:26)...
How many these numbers amount to, we do not know…What we do know is that it is a multitude beyond number! Genesis ch.15:5; ch.32:12;
Revelation 7:9-11***
vs5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure.
Psalm 131
vs6 The Lord lifts up the humble;
he casts the wicked to the ground.
Revelation ch.15:1-4 & ch.18
vs7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
make melody to our God on the lyre!
***One of the most important things we learn from David, is the fundamentals of worship: Praise and thanksgiving!***
vs8
HE covers the heavens with clouds;
HE prepares rain for the earth;
HE makes grass grow on the hills.
vs9
HE gives to the beasts their food,
and to the young ravens that cry.
***A Christian’s belief, that God is their Savior, must first be built upon the fundamental belief that God is The Creator - Genesis ch. 1-3. If we do not understand who The God of Genesis is, we cannot truly understand who The Lord Jesus Christ is.***
vs10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse,
nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
(David knows this too well…see 1Samuel 17:45-47)
vs11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
in those who hope in his steadfast love.
*** To put our hope in ourselves rather than God is a path that leads to idolatry and destruction…as David well knows (Psalm 27:14)
This was Israel’s folly in Exodus ch.32…
King Saul’s folly in 1Samuel ch.13…
It has been humanity’s folly from the beginning (Genesis 11:1-9)…
and will be at the end (Revelation 9:20-21).
But to put our hope in The Lord…to wait for Him…no matter how hard it gets…is the highest form of worship -
Matthew 24:12-13;
Acts 1:4-5;
Revelation 6:8-11***
