Notes on Galatians

Galatians 1

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

we are still waiting on this physical deliverance (as described in 1Thess.4) which tells us that we are still in the age that Paul is describing.

24 And they glorified God because of me.

This should be the purpose of our testimony; and the purpose and testimony of us all.

Ch.2

Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along with me. I went up because of a revelation and set before them (though privately before those who seemed influential) the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles, in order to make sure I was not running or had not run in vain.

Although Paul received revelation and authority as an Apostle, directly from the Lord, he made himself directly accountable to the other Apostles - they whom had known Jesus before him.

And from those who seemed to be influential (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those, I say, who seemed influential added nothing to me.

In other words: Paul’s revelation has come directly from the Lord and does not contradict any way, the teachings of the other Apostles. In this way, Paul is saying: “I didn’t copy anyone…I didn’t steal from anyone.”
