The Bridegroom and His Friend 



Jesus:                                                                             And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.” Mark 2:19




John the Baptist:                                                   “He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.” John 3:29


Here, we see Jesus and John the Baptist testifying about each other. Whether Jesus’s statement came first or John’s, both statements were given to John disciples, as a confirmation to them, that Jesus truly is the One John spoke of - and that John truly was His prophet.

Exodus 34:1-7 The Lord said to Moses, “Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. (See Isaiah 24:5) Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.  No one shall come up with you, and let no one be seen throughout all the mountain. Let no flocks or herds graze opposite that mountain.” So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the first. And he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone.  The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.  The Lord passed before him and proclaimed,  “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,” These instructions for approaching the mountain tell us the seriousness of the situation.

A Tail of Two Covenants   Genesis 15:1-6  After these things the word of the  Lord  came to Abram in a vision:  “Fear not, Abram, I am  your shield; your reward shall be very great.”  2  But Abram said, “O Lord  God , what will you give me, for I continue  childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”  3  And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and  a member of my household will be my heir.”  4  And behold, the word of the  Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir;  your very own son  shall be your heir. 5  And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6 And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness. (Genesis 15:5-6) This scene marks the birthplace of a Covenant of pure Grace - which all believers understand, will be fulfilled through the death and resurrection of The Seed of Abraham: Jesus Christ of Nazare
