Concerning the Object and Subject of Faith…

1John 5:4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 

Faith in what? 

Faith in our words..? 

Faith in our faith..?

John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in ME you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

So whoever is born of God (John 3:3) overcomes the world because Christ overcame it first: Through Jesus’s vicarious death on the Cross, we now have everything we need that pertains to Life - everlasting Life. This is what deep down, everyone longs for - and it is only obtainable One Way (John 14:5-6). 

Here is the object of our Faith: Jesus Christ and Him crucified! (there is NOTHING else - and nothing else is needed)

1John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Exodus 34:1-7 The Lord said to Moses, “Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. (See Isaiah 24:5) Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.  No one shall come up with you, and let no one be seen throughout all the mountain. Let no flocks or herds graze opposite that mountain.” So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the first. And he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone.  The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.  The Lord passed before him and proclaimed,  “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,” These instructions for approaching the mountain tell us the seriousness of the situation.

A Tail of Two Covenants   Genesis 15:1-6  After these things the word of the  Lord  came to Abram in a vision:  “Fear not, Abram, I am  your shield; your reward shall be very great.”  2  But Abram said, “O Lord  God , what will you give me, for I continue  childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”  3  And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and  a member of my household will be my heir.”  4  And behold, the word of the  Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir;  your very own son  shall be your heir. 5  And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6 And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness.
